Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is there something in particular you want to work on, improve upon, or a specific goal you want to achieve? Would it be helpful to have a protected space to talk to someone who is dedicated to supporting you? Do you feel psychologically well enough to focus on the present and make practical steps forward? Are you ready to make an investment in you? If your answer is yes to all of these, then coaching may be just what you need. You can request a consultation today. There’s no commitment to continue, and no charge for this initial meeting, so you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by exploring the idea.

  • There are clear boundaries between these 3 forms of support.

Psychological support/therapy: In a nutshell, this is most appropriate for those experiencing emotional or psychological problems (diagnosed or not) that are causing notable disruption to day-to-day life. Often carried out as weekly sessions for 6-12 weeks by a qualified therapist or psychologist.

Mentoring: Support from someone who is experienced or an expert in the specific topic. They might provide key connections, give advice and share their own experience to help you. Often carried out as ad hoc or structured conversations over several months and is limited to a specific subject.

Coaching: Support to help unlock the potential of an individual in any aspect of life. Coaching focuses on the present moment and aims to create sustainable positive change through practical steps. Often carried out as monthly sessions for 6 months and may tackle a few areas to achieve an overarching goal. E.g. Coaching sessions may focus on understanding values, reviewing key relationships, and exploring aspirations for the future, in order to achieve an overarching goal of improving work satisfaction.

  • Unfortunately the professional title of ‘Coach’ is not protected and so anyone can market themselves in this way. The EMCC is a professional membership organisation which requires its members to operate in line with the standards and ethics required to work safely and effectively. By working with an EMCC accredited coach, you can feel confident about the quality of service you are receiving. An EMCC accredited coach has undergone formal training to deliver this service skilfully, undergoes regular supervision to maintain their standard of practice, and is recognised as a qualified professional to operate in this capacity.

You can find out whether a coach is EMCC registered by using their directory of members: https://www.emccglobal.org/directory/.

You wouldn’t let someone operate on you if they weren’t a qualified surgeon and it shouldn’t be any different with other forms of support.

  • The business name was born out of a desire to focus on the service on offer (coaching) as well as its sentiment. Coaching is all about elevating people and by elevating yourself, it’s almost inevitable you will have a positive impact on those around you as well. This is where the notion of ‘paying it forward’ came to mind and the name merged these two ideas. Coach it Forward is also a true reflection of what we’re trying to achieve in coaching; a forward momentum to progress and enhance ourselves and our lives.
